July Picnic:  This is the time for our annual community picnic so bring the family and a neighbor to join us for hot dogs and hamburgers. We’ll provide the soda too, please bring a covered dish or a dessert. This picnic has become a regular event for many of our members. It’s a chance to get to know your neighbors better and catch up on what’s going on in the community. This year there should be extra incentive in coming as we will be joined by Carroll County Library Director Linda Mielke who will provide us with an update on the plans for a library and central headquarters in Finksburg.

For those wondering, our June meeting was canceled at the last minute because of some renovations at the Sandymount United Methodist church.

Candidate Forums: All candidates for the office of County Commissioner have been invited to the August meeting. To assure that our forum does not conflict with another that month we have moved  our meeting date up to August 15th. Due to the large field of candidates we must begin promptly at 7:00 PM. This is your opportunity to see how each of 14 candidates responds to questions on issues pertinent to Finksburg: future growth, watershed protection, and education. Nine of the candidates we see are facing a Republican Primary on September 10th. We will have voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications at the meeting.

This is not a meeting to miss! The forum will be held back at our usual location, Sandymount United Methodist Church.

More Candidate Forums: It is our intention to give the citizens of Finksburg every opportunity to become informed voters. On September 26th we will hold a forum for all candidates running for the House of Delegates in our District 5B. Mark your Calendars now.

Our final forum will be held on October 24th for the post-primary finalists in the County Commissioners race. This time we will be narrowing our questions down considerably to learn how each candidate will serve the Finksburg community and allow each to speak about their vision for Carroll County for the next four, ten and fifty years. Set this date on your calendar and let us know what you would like to have FPAC ask each candidate in advance.

The Finksburg Banner: This is our quarterly print newspaper which is distributed free to all residents and businesses in the 21048 zip code. Area businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the inexpensive advertising rates and residents are asked to patronize these advertisers. The next edition of the Banner will appear in October and will be full of information about the candidates for County offices and the issues affecting Finksburg. We are looking for articles and photos of local interest. If you have any ideas,  or wish to place an ad contact Denny Broderick at  410-833-4255

Subdivision News:

Piedmont  Acres:  a nine lot subdivision to be located at Armacost Avenue, just off the Old Westminster Pike. The County staff has recommended approval and concurrency management certificates have been issued for 2003 despite a comment from Reese Fire Company that adequate water for emergencies is not available at that location. On the Planning Commission agenda for July 9th.

Seven – Eleven: Received approval but with two amendments due to comments from FPAC and neighbors. The canopy and sign will be drastically reduced in height and the intersection will be reconfigured with a blinking light.

Sheetz Alert: Rumor has it that one of the most hideous looking gas and go operations in America has contracted with Mudgett Auto Body for the pad site at Dede Rd. and Rt 140. If this is true, citizens will have to act quickly to work with planners for architectural controls which will make a gas and go at that location an asset, not an eyesore.

Litter Pickup: Fourteen FPAC members picked up 25 bags of litter in two hours along Rt 91 from Rt 140 to Deer Park Rd. this past  June 15th. Thanks to all our volunteers. We’ll be back out there again in September.
